New service - varroa management

Over the past year, varroa mite has become the single biggest threat to honey bee colonies across Australia. It’s no longer something happening “somewhere else” — it’s here, and unmanaged hives simply won’t survive long term. As beekeepers, we now have a responsibility to move from reactive treatments to proactive management. Waiting until mite numbers spike is often too late, and by the time visible symptoms appear, the colony is already under significant stress.
Recently, I attended specialised training on the safe and effective use of oxalic acid through both vaporisation and strip application. This approach provides immediate mite knockdown while maintaining ongoing suppression between visits. The goal isn’t just treatment — it’s consistent control, reduced stress on the colony, and giving your bees the best chance to thrive.

I’m now offering a structured varroa mite management service designed to keep colonies healthy through consistent, proactive control. Using oxalic acid applied through vaporisation and sustained-release strips, I provide a six-weekly treatment cycle that targets both mites on adult bees and those emerging from sealed brood. This approach maintains low mite numbers, reduces colony stress, and supports long-term hive stability without the need for routine alcohol wash testing.
Each visit includes treatment application, hive monitoring, and ongoing scheduling to ensure protection continues throughout the season. The aim is simple: early intervention, steady control, and peace of mind knowing your bees are being actively managed rather than reacting to a crisis. If you’d like a clear outline of how the program works and what’s included, see the attached flyer for full details.
